Olly Clark, son of rally legend, Roger Clark, piloted the famous “Gobstopper II” Subaru Impreza time attack car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and put down a winning run of 44.91-seconds.

The Gobstopper II is the successor to the original Gobstopper time attack car built by Matt and Olly Clark at Roger Clark Motorsports, which was an Impreza GC8. The car was a great success, but they had no plans to redevelop the car for further competition. Instead, they started with a Prodrive WRC Impreza shell and set to work designing, developing, and building the impressive and successful Gobstopper II you see in the video.

The car is a menace out on the track, and the Goodwood hill climb is no exception. The run wasn’t to just show off the car, as most did with their runs, but a truly competitive run as if it were a time attack competition, which essentially it is, just without specific car classes. With Goodwood’s hill climb no wider than a one-lane road, there was no room for error with the amount of speed clark was carrying. It really was an awesome sight to see the Gobstopper II navigate the tight course with ease.

There’s no question that the Gobstopper II is one of the quickest Subaru Imprezas around, but the attention to detail of all the work put into the car is astonishing. We look forward to see the Gobstopper II at next year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed; maybe it will beat out Nick Heidfield’s record time of 41.6-seconds he set with a McLaren Formula 1 car 16 years ago.
