The ZMAX Dragway in North Carolina has the distinction of being the first four lane drag strip. Recently Cole Marmon power shifted his Vibrant Performance Civic to the win in a thrilling 4 vs 4 race. Marmon’s Civic, prepared by Speedfactory Racing, blasted an 8.911 in the video. But the day itself belonged to Joel Sipes who took the win in SFWD at Honda Day in North Carolina in the BWR USA Civic! Marmon made the podium in third place. The video is a small snippet of the action.
The zMAX Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway is the “Bellagio of Drag Strips,” according to Speedway Motorsports CEO Bruton Smith. Opened in 2008 and the only 4-lane, all-concrete drag strip on the planet, this state-of-the-art facility includes two grandstand structures, one on each side of the quarter-mile track. Two pedestrian tunnels connect the grandstands underneath the strip to enhance fan mobility.
zMAX Dragway is home to NHRA Drag Racing and the Summer Drag and Brag street racing series. It has also hosted the popular “PINKS-All Out” TV series and the NMCA/NMRA Nationals. The Dragway hosts NHRA events, including the annual NHRA Carolinas Nationals, as well as many others. The NHRA Carolinas Nationals is the first playoff round of the NHRA POWERade Countdown to the Championship and features competition in all four professional categories – Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
