Making an eye-catching video promoting high performance cars for a modern audience is becoming a pretty cut and dry proposition – get some low angles, crank up the exhaust note, and throw in a healthy dollop of opposite lock for good measure. It would be easy to dismiss this clip from Lexus as another entry in that bargain bin of enthusiast fodder, but “Dance of F” turns out to be more than a thinly veiled promotion for the new RC F and (to a lesser extent) the LFA supercar.
To create the video, Lexus headed to Fuji Speedway with the LFA, the two road-going RC F coupes, and a pair of RC F GT3 race cars. But rather than just send the vehicles around the track willy-nilly, a carefully choreographed ballet between the cars is performed – and of course, there’s no shortage of tire billowing oversteer to keep your eyes locked to the screen.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the LFA’s insanely high revving, 8.4-liter naturally aspirated V10 has a way of stealing the show every time the throttle gets stabbed, but the RC F’s rorty 5.0-liter V8 is no slouch either, and Lexus is keen to show off their BMW M4 fighter’s prowess as well.
The 540 horsepower RC F GT3 cars turn out to be the most well-behaved of the bunch, only stepping out when it’s time to pull some Blues Brothers-style parking maneuvers, which makes sense considering the race car’s grace is found in its ability to stay gripped around the bends rather than any inclination one might have to fry the tires.
Hit the play button and enjoy three minutes well spent.
