Video: Dyno Time For A Vortech-supercharged Commodore VT

We continue on our Holden Commodore kick this week with this clean VT owned, campaigned, and built by Mark Sass of Sass Automotive.

After successfully running as a 9-second nitrous-only car, Sass felt it was time to take it up a notch with the addition of a Vortech V-7 side-mounted centrifugal supercharger. Before the blower was added into the equation, Sass’ Commodore VT’s engine setup consisted of an LQ9 block with forged internals, LS7 heads, a hydraulic camshaft, and Yella Terra roller rockers. Power makes its way to the 9-inch rearend with Moser axles through a T400 transmission by Precision Automatics and a TCE high stall converter.

As you can see in the photo on the right, the intercooler clamp that attaches the pipe to the throttle body came loose during the run.

The first run we see on the video shows the car screaming with the new V-7 blower installed until a pesky intercooler pipe clamp popped off, ending the pull right then and there.

Although the clamp popped off, the car still managed to produce 681 horsepower to the wheels. The second run was definitely more solid and the dyno numbers prove it. With no hang-ups, the car made a whopping 739 horsepower at the tires. No boost levels were mentioned, but we have a feeling the engine has a lot more in it.

The reason we feel that the engine has a lot more in it is because of the fact that the nitrous system that Sass was running prior to installing the blower wasn’t hooked up for the dyno runs with the blower installed. With the nitrous hooked up, the car is sure to make close to 900 horsepower or more (or die trying…) We hope to see more of Sass’ clean Commodore VT in the future!
