When you normally think of off-road vehicles, you probably imagine a Jeep, Bronco, Blazer, or some other SUV, pickup truck, or buggie. However, there are numerous other types of SUVs, trucks, and cars out there blasting around on the trail. When it comes to desert off-road racing, it can be an entirely different story filled with entirely different vehicles.

Such is the case with the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) Mexican 1000. The NORRA Mexican 1000 is an off-road rally of sorts, in which a wide variety of vehicles make the run down the Baja California, Mexico peninsula on many of the dirt roads and highways (if you can call them that) used for the Baja 1000 off-road race. The NORRA Mexican 1000 is staged over a period of five to six days, with rest stops at night for a little R&R on both the crew and the machine.

The “>video above is of one of the wide variety of vehicles that participated in the 2013 NORRA Mexican 1000. It is a 1964 Ford Galaxie built by Triple Nickel (555) Racing, and it is just plain fun to watch this old beauty roar down the rally course. Called “The Galaxia de la Baja,” the car took 2nd place in the Vintage Production class, and 16th overall. The drivers were Buzz Weldy, Eric Dove, Joe Thompson, Chris McCoy, and Rene Aguirre (some who are 555 fabricators), and the navigator was Krysten Laine.
