The human brain can react in a fraction of a second–as fast as 13 milliseconds, studies have found–but it’s the muscles that actually carry out the orders, and sometimes, things just go wrong. Case in point: the showdown between these two C6s that took place at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.
The competitors do their burnouts prior to the showdown.
In the left lane, we see a granite gray Corvette, but the details are left unclear as to its specs. In the right lane, the star of the hour is the similarly colored Z06, “EvilTT”. Running on twin turbos and drag slicks, the car’s bite is matched with its bark as we get to hear the rumbling exhaust note in the pre-staging moments.
Off to a bad start…
It’s close to the 0:43 mark that we see everything go south. The lights come down, the green goes up, and the left-side Vette is out of the box first. EvilTT, on the other hand, suffers a misstep with a bad launch, losing precious milliseconds as the opposing Corvette zooms ahead.
The tables turn rather quickly, however, as EvilTT gets back on and zips past at the 0:53 mark. It’s all but over for the other driver as he’s left to eat dust. He’s probably kicking himself for the golden opportunity he was presented.
…but a fantastic ending!
The final times are shown, with the left-side car’s run of 11.528 seconds at 131.83 mph, and the winning Z06 commanding 10.368 seconds at 166.21 mph. Redemption can take a long time for some, but when it’s in turbocharged C6 with meaty rubber, it happens in the blink of eye.
