With Chris Harris having left /Drive to start his own YouTube channel, Chris Harris on Cars, he now reviews cars that were previously only available to /Drive’s paying subscribers.
BMW’s latest and greatest, the F80 M3, was one of the first cars he reviewed for the new channel, and it sure made a great first impression on him. As he took the car for a drive around the fine roads of Portugal and on the Portimao circuit, Harris acknowledged the improved steering from its predecessor, the E92 M3. The 3.0-liter inline-six engine is much more capable with its powerful 406 lb-ft of torque starting at only 1,850 rpm.
The power plant doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade from the E92’s S65 V8 engine being that it’s a twin turbo inline-six, but the F80 M3’s powertrain really gets the car moving, compared to its predecessor. However, Harris had a concern with some odd noises coming from the engine, which he describe to be similar to the 335d of the previous generation. It is not what one would expect from an M3, but the more he drove it, he became accustomed to the noise and actually started to like it.
Harris’s expressions of the F80 M3 were nothing but positive. Driving the M3 on the nice roads of Portugal along with further testing on the Portimao circuit proved to him its outstanding handling and performance. Towards the end of the video, he has a little bit of fun sliding the car around to prove how much control the driver has, take a look!
