Chances are, the best way to stay out of jail and keep your girlfriend isn’t to drive her car onto a racetrack during an actual race.
Back in June, 22-year-old, Jack Cottle, did just that at the Brands Hatch Circuit during a four-hour Fun Cup race. What was just a mere dare, turned into one of the stupidest stunts in racing and could’ve cost lives, had there been an accident. During the whole lap of stupidity, Cottle’s girlfriend, who was screaming for him to get off of the track in the passenger seat the whole time, suffered a panic attack and needed medical attention shortly after.
After the footage of Cottle’s stunt was posted on YouTube, he was arrested. Cottle pled guilty to the charge of causing a public nuisance and was sentenced to 8 months in jail. Maidstone Crown Court’s Judge Martin Joy described Cottle’s actions as “premeditated” and “inexcusable,” which probably didn’t help the situation much, either. From the video, you can see that Cottle came off of the track laughing, thinking it was no big deal, but we’re sure he’s regretting the whole thing now.
“His idiotic and selfish behaviour – aggravated by his unrepentant attitude in subsequent media coverage – received much immediate condemnation. His conviction and prison sentence will serve to reinforce the message that this kind of antisocial behaviour is not only stupid, but will lead to prosecution,” stated Judge Martin Joy.
We definitely hope that Cottle learned his lesson and we’re happy that nobody was seriously hurt. Don’t try this at your local track during a race, people! Below, we’ve also attatched the video that Cottle’s friend took from the back seat.
