Crashes are no fun by any means, especially when they can cost a team a lot of money, and possibly the race.

The Lisboa corner of the Guia Circuit in Hong Kong, China has proven to be quite the pain. We like to call that corner “The Funnel” for obvious reasons. It slows down traffic, it’s unbelievably narrow, and it catches racers by surprise, even after numerous laps of practice.

At first, the race starts off fine. Literally, less than a minute passes and the two lead drivers come into the Lisboa corner too fast, the driver in first understeers into the barrier, and the second-place driver crashes into the back of him because he’s right on his tail.

All of the cars behind the two lead cars come in way too hot and cause a pileup in the two-lane-wide turn, thus, causing a black flag that shuts the race down. For those wondering what kind of cars they’re racing, they are BAIC D70s, based off of the Saab 9-5.

That definitely isn’t the first time that corner has caused a huge problem. There was a Formula 3 race that same weekend where multiple cars piled up as well. Not all of them like the Chinese Cup, but a good portion of the field wrecked in that corner.

One thing that we were baffled about with the Chinese Cup was the video quality. It’s 2014 and videos are still being uploaded in 360P? Anyway, we hope that corner gets widened next year, or else we’ll be seeing the same pileup!
