SEMA 2014: Vintage Air Blows Some Cool Air On A Hot Musclecar

VintageAirSEMA01One thing that is frustrating, let alone costly, is replacing air conditioning components in a classic Dodge B body musclecar. Cables can bend, plastic clips can break, and cores can leak, all of which can create more of a headache for the car owner.

Introduced this year at SEMA, Vintage Air showed us their brand new Sure Fit Kit complete air conditioning unit for 1966-70 B body Mopars. This kit doesn’t just fit one model and adapt to all others – it fits ALL 1966-70 B body cars with the proper switch plates and sliders provided in the kit.

The complete kit includes the compressor and condenser, hard and flexible lines, heater core, evaporator core, and switch plates to make for a complete installation – doing away with cables and vacuum lines. Replacing all cables are servos that are completely serviceable with OEM quality stepper motors.

All wiring and harnesses are included, and the compact case includes mounting brackets that don’t require making modifications to the firewall or underdash sheet metal. All switch plates and sliders are made to appear factory, but behind each plate is a plug to accept a wire harness instead of cables or vacuum lines.

Digital electronics and LED illumination make this cool product even cooler, with high tech controls and reliable servo motors.

The servo motors allow the owner to make variable temperature adjustments, as well as to provide a full variable speed fan instead of the typical three or four speed fans that originally came with the car. Bracket kits for the compressor are available for most big and small block Mopars, including the Hemi.

The best part about this complete kit is that it retails for around $1,450.00, or about $800.00 for the interior only kit, making it not only a suitable replacement but a very cost-effective replacement at that. For other applications not covered, Vintage Air has universal kits that are both compact and powerful to help you keep your cool on those hot summer days. Check out the Vintage Air website for more information about air conditioning kits and components, and keep your cool on your vintage ride.
