Video: Are We Ready For An Electric Supercar With Gobs Of Torque?

Carroll Shelby was an innovator, and one of our favorite performance junkies, having put his name on several cars that came off the production line for both Ford and Mopar. Of course, the Shelby Cobras and Daytona Coupes were some of the most famous sports cars of all time. The Cobra has been replicated numerous times by various companies, and even the Daytona has a few kit cars out there as well.

But now we see something a little different: what looks like a Shelby Daytona Coupe on the outside, has nothing under the hood that Shelby would have approved of. Or would he? Instead of the typical Ford powertrain that we love listening to in the Daytona, we’re met with something a lot quieter: three high voltage lithium ion battery packs. Is the world ready for an all-electric Daytona clone, called the Renovo Motors Coupe?

We have to hand it to them, they have a great looking car, and under the bonnet is quite spectacular looking, to say the least. A polished set of battery covers and bright orange cables make it look pretty cool when the bonnet is raised. It’s kind of a “Daytona meets the Wraith” if we were to put two cars together.

The claims for this American Supercar that should be available in 2015 are pretty astounding. Try 1,000 lb-ft of torque, twin sequential axial flux electric motors producing over 500 horsepower, 0-60 times under 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 120 mph? If that’s not enough, how about a curb weight of only 3,250 pounds, 30 minute quick charge and a 5-hour level 2 charge, and all of this is built onto a genuine, factory modified Shelby American CSX9000 rolling chassis.

renovo09We may not be ready for an all electric Shelby Daytona Coupe, but for some people, this is going to be one helluva ride. There were only six original Shelby Daytona Coupes built, so the chances of owning one are slim to none unless you have millions to spare.

We’re sure the Renovo Coupe, built in Silicon Valley, California, won’t be cheap, but it has a genuine Shelby chassis under it, and the looks of the 1964 Le Mans winner, and that’s still pretty cool. Are you ready for an electric supercar like the Renovo Coupe?
