Video: A Look At Vaughn Gittin Jr’s Missile Fox

Vaughn Gittin Jr is a well recognized name among Mustang enthusiasts. While most are familiar with his Monster Energy RTR Formula Drift machine, only a few realize that Gittin also owns a Fox body setup for drifting.

We’ve shown you a few videos in the past of this car taking a beating with Gittin taking it around the track and even jumping it. What we’ve never had is an up close look at this battered black Fox dubbed the Missile Fox by Gittin. We recently came across a video where Gittin shows some of the details of his car while having some fun at the East Coast Bash at Englishtown, a place where Gittin got his start in drifting.

In the video Gittin takes us around the car for a look at what makes it work. He actually bought the car out of California with several modifications already made to it. Among those modifications include an independent rear suspension swap and a roll cage, both already in the car.

Under the hood there’s no exotic powerplant, it’s just a Ford Racing crate 302, making what Gittin says he thinks is 300 hp at the flywheel. Backing that engine up is a Tremec T-56 Magnum, and the IRS has been stuffed with 2.73 airplane gears. That high gearing allows Gittin to easily keep the engine in the flattest, fattest part of the torque curve which helps him keep the rear wheels spinning. There’s an ASD handbrake inside the car, and underneath longer front lower control arms have been added along with extended tie rod ends all contributing to getting the car properly sideways.

The exterior of the car is not much different than a lot of Fox body Mustangs we spot these days, beat up, and dirty. Gittin says he likes it this way, noting that he has several high-maintenance cars. He says it’s nice to own one that will take all the abuse he can throw its way without the need for much more than a regular oil change to keep it going.

In the video Gittin says his face hurts from smiling so much every time he drives this car, and that he has no plans to fix it up. Given the abuse we see him put it through we’re inclined to wonder why would he? There’s more details on the car and some great drifting in the video.
