Video: Cine Meccanica To Host Free Screening Of “This Is Long Beach”

Cine Meccanica is scheduled to host a free screening of Brian Darwas’ latest film “This is Long Beach” at Lady Jay’s, 633 Grand St., Brooklyn, New York 11211. The screening is scheduled for 8:00 p.m and will have Brian on hand to answer any questions that attendees have about the documentary or any of his other films.

Last August Rod Authority made it out to the film premier of Brian’s documentary that chronicles over three generations of the Long Beach Cavaliers, one of the nation’s oldest car clubs. Check out the recap of that awesome night here.

The following is a synopsis of the film, “Hot rod historian Brian Darwas shadows three generations of custom car and hot rod aficionados, The Long Beach Cavaliers, in his latest documentary film, This Is Long Beach. Each generation, from the 1940s to present, recounts detailed memories and pays homage to the cars that bonded them in a  lifelong brotherhood all while chopping and customizing a 1947 Ford in Brad Masterson’s Kustom’s shop in historic Lynwood, California.”

With Brian embarking on a nationwide summer film tour he’s been asked a lot of questions during his screenings. These are a few of the ones that commonly come up as well as his responses:

What prompted you to make a film about the Long Beach Cavaliers?

Brian: History is a big part of hot rod and custom car culture, and I wanted to make a film that was rich in that history. The Cavaliers are one of the oldest car clubs (est. 1947) that managed to survive through the ups and downs of it all, so naturally they were a perfect fit.

What was the filming process like?

Brian: I just sat each generation of the club down in front of the camera and let them reminisce about what life was like as they were growing up in Long Beach, and how the car culture of Southern California played such an important role in their lives.

What was your favorite thing about making this film?

Brian: Just getting to hear real stories from real people that lived it. Seeing these guys speak so fondly of a time period that I’ve only read about was really an awesome experience.
