Video: LateModelRestoration.com Gets Blue Collar Ready For Paint

Whether you’re restoring a Mustang or just want to change the look of it, at some point you’re probably going to have to paint it. The older a car gets, the more wear the paint and the rest of the body accumulate. LateModelRestoration.com is known for providing Mustang owners with not only the parts they need to restore or update their Mustang, but also helpful tips, for installing parts, repairing your car, and getting the most out of your Mustang.

One of the company’s latest undertakings is Project Blue Collar, a Fox body they’re reviving and modifying into what will eventually be a beautiful street machine. The next step for this project is for it to go to paint. In LateModelRestoration.com’s latest video, their own J-Mac shows us how to strip a Fox body and get it ready for paint. Many body shops will offer some type of discount if you do this step yourself, since they won’t have to pay one of their technicians to do it for them. There’s a long list of parts that will need to come off the car to get it ready:

  • Bumpers
  • Trim
  • Moldings
  • Lights
  • Badges
  • Weather stripping
  • Spoiler
  • Quarter-glass
  • Ground effects

With the car stripped, you’ll probably have to load it up on a trailer or have a wrecker transport it to the body shop for you, since it won’t have any brake lights or turn signals, let alone the bumpers, and some of the glass will be removed.

The key here is to take your time, try not to break, or bend any of the parts, and make sure you label and separate fasteners and screws so that they can be easily located when the time comes for reassembly. Check out the video which is shown mostly in time-lapse, and plan on spending several hours on this job. In the end, a few hours of elbow grease, could end up saving you a few hundred dollars at the body shop.
