Last weekend was a good weekend for the Ford Racing NASCAR team, with driver Brad Keselowski winning both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was the first sweep for the Team Penske driver this season, and the double win put him within one point of Sprint Cup leader Dale Earnhardt Jr., and also marked the maiden victory of Team Penske’s Nationwide Mustang.

It was a hard-fought victory for Keselowski, and a long overdue victory for the Ford Mustang, which can now count a NASCAR victory among its many accomplishments in 2014. The Nationwide Race saw Keselowski holding off Earnhardt in the final laps of the Boyd Gaming 300 despite a failing battery, and the Mustang managed to cross the finish line for the Saturday victory. After finishing in third in the first two races of the season, it was a much-needed pick-me-up for the Ford driver and team.

But the feather in his cap came on Sunday, when Keselowski managed to creep up on Earnhardt in the Sprint Cup series in the closing laps. With their positions reversed, Earnhardt took a gamble and forwent a final refueling. Unfortunately for him, his car was running on fumes that last lap, and Keselowski was able to power past him in his Ford Fusion race car as Earnhardt limped to a second place finish.

The Blue Oval boys had plenty to celebrate this weekend, but there’s always the next race to look forward to.
