Malibu Monday: The Second Round of Quarter Panel Patching

A few weeks ago, the American Modern crew tackled some rust issues on the inside quarter panel of their 1965 Chevy Malibu SS, but they didn’t get the patch work done. So this week on Build, Claims Specialist Rick Drewry shows us how to patch the damaged place on the quarter while making it smooth sailing for any final body work. Check it out above.

But this isn’t as simple as it may sound, as just like every other body panel, this little piece needed a bit of massaging to make it fit perfectly.

Once fitted into place, the new sheet metal was welded into place, securing it to the underside of the quarter and filling the void the rust damage left. Luckily, even though it may look a bit rough from the front, this patch job will be completely covered up by the outter fender, while the inner wheel well will clean up nicely with a grinder.

Then, once the welding is done, the rivets will be drilled out and the remaining holes will be filled in.

With this quarter panel patch complete, the Malibu SS is almost ready to be put back together! Be sure to check back next week to see what the crew of The Build is up to next!
