VIDEO: ’30 Ford Coupe Wins “Loudest Car Award” At Chicago Rev Battle

A popular term used widely in Internet-speak is “tfw.” Standing for “that feeling when,” it’s a shorthand way of describing something that works on a level above the sum of its parts. Rod Authority caught wind of this awesome video featuring a hot rod that aptly fits the “tfw” moniker, if for nothing else than pure auditory pleasure.

1930Fordhotrod1Taking place in Chicago, the video, uploaded by ChiMotorTrend, shows us a magnificent little purple 1930 Ford strutting its stuff amidst a field of competitors.

It’s flanked by the likes of tuner cars–a Dodge Neon here, a knockoff 2Fast2Furious Mitsubishi Evo there–all equipped with the latest in body kits, turbos, and other performance equipment, but all the “fart cans” in the world can’t drown out the badassness that is the Ford’s powerplant.

A detailed description shares all the sweet parts that have been packed into the coupe: “It has a 350 4-bolt block, Dart Pro 1 heads, roller rockers and a Comp cam. There is an 8/71 Weiand blower with 2 750cfm quick fuel carbs.”

Mallory digital ignition and a 175HP shot of nitrous. It has a TH400 trans with a manual reverse valve body and Hurst shifter. Rear end is a 9-inch Ford with 3:90 gears and a spool. Best run to date is 9.59 @139.7.”

“The body is sitting on a Roadster shop frame with a six point rollbar. Dash is handmade Brazilian purple heart wood. Color is ultraviolet purple metalflake, with airbrushed flames. It is a homebuilt car, built from an untouched stocker.”

We won’t deign to browbeat or belittle the sport compacts and tuner cars as “rice,” but we will say this: sorry, guys, but nothing beats the guttural noise you get from a V8. Kudos to the Ford’s owner for winning the “Loudest Car Award.”
