VIDEO: Off Road Simulation Goes To Kickstarter For Financial Boost

Off-road driving, and especially racing, is an experience that is hard to relate to someone who has never done it. Simulators have been around for years for aspiring air pilots, but there was never anything that really captured the true essence of what it was like behind the wheel of a Trophy Truck without actually being in the real thing.

Kevin Westendorf of Saginaw, Michigan, decided to change that. After a successful romp with a remote control car simulator game, Westendorf jumped into the design process again and started working on D Series Off Road Simulator for PCs.

To help get the project completed, Westendorf and his company, Devotid Media, has put together a Kickstarter project for additional funding. In D Series, “my focus is off-road racing, starting with Trophy Trucks, Trophy Karts, and rally cars.” Says Westendorf. “My main goal is capturing the intensity of off-road racing and give fans an idea of what it is like to handle a scratch-built off-road race machine.”

The game is currently loaded with some great features. Four vehicles including Trophy Karts and Trophy Trucks, four tracks and custom “off-road” physics. With these custom off-road physics, the player is able to fine tune their vehicle just like they would a real race truck. Adjustable bump stops, rebound, spring rates and ride heights are just a few of the things the player can alter.

Westendorf intends to build the race course using a higher detail “terrain mesh” for a “true dynamic racing surface,” allowing for tires of the race vehicles to alter the dirt in a way that it affects the next time you pass through that section of the lap, or how another player feels it when in multi-player mode.

In typical Kickstarter fashion, the project is set up with multiple pledge levels and packages. Devotid has also set up in-game advertising for companies wishing to utilize the race course to help build their branding.
