Video: Camaro SS Gets Knight Rider Treatment

In 2008, the hit 80s television show Knight Rider returned to television, but it was doomed to fail from the start. Why do we say that? Simply put, Knight Rider replaced the Pontiac Trans Am-based K.I.T.T. with a Shelby GT500, and fans just didn’t dig it enough. If only the producers had waited another year or two to begin filming, they could have used a proper successor to the original Knight Rider: a fifth-generation Camaro SS.

Alas, a Camaro K.I.T.T. in the new Knight Rider never came to 21st century television, and we’re left wondering “What if?” Well thanks to some clever editing and a dedicated Knight Rider fan named Gabe, we at least have some idea of what a K.I.T.T. Camaro might look like.

K.I.T.T. was originally based on the then-new third-generation Pontiac Trans Am, and it was all blacked-out, lowered, and had the trademark red-lit hood scoop light thing that everyone knows but no one can describe. The new Camaro integrates said light perfectly, and in many ways the fifth-generation Chevy muscle car fits the K.I.T.T. profile even better.

The new Camaro looks more aggressive than the Mustang, and more muscular too if you ask us. All blacked-out, it looks like the bouncer or hitman of the highway, and besides the addition of an aftermarket chin spoiler and trunk spoiler, as well as some blacked-out wheels, this Camaro retains its factory-granted identity. It’s a fitting successor to the original Knight Rider, and perhaps it’s time this 80s classic got one last shot at the small screen.
