The 1955 Buick Special was never a highly sought after car. Sure, there were plenty of them on the road back in the day, but the Special wasn’t the high-dollar status car that really turned heads per say. That, however, didn’t deter Harry Fisher from picking this one up for the ultimate hot rod cruiser. Check it out in this week’s episode of Muscle above.

Fitted with a 502ci fuel-injected Ramjet engine, this 1955 Buick Special is beyond expectation.

Not only is the car 3,800 pounds and about twice the length of an average grocery-getter by today’s standards, it also boasts nearly 600hp and about 650ft-lbs of torque. Watch out Honda Civics, because this thing will blow you out of the water.

Supporting the massive powerhouse under the hood is a reworked 700R4 automatic transmission, which pushes the Buick’s extreme amount of power through a rear 4-link down to the pavement. The car also boasts disc brakes on all four corners for the convenience and safety of modern braking.

Inside, the car maintains may elements of its stock interior, including the couch-like plush upholstery, the extensive brightwork, and even the original gauges, which had their internals rebuilt by Auto Meter. Fisher also has power steering and a vintage air conditioning unit to keep everything optimally comfortable on long trips.

Unlike some of the guys who are featured on Big Muscle, Fisher did not build this car from the ground up. Instead, he opted to buy an almost finished car, spending only a fraction of what the car would have actually cost to build to its current standards. For Fisher, it just doesn’t make sense to spend $100 grand building a car when you can buy it from the project owner for less than half of that.

Certainly there’s an appeal on either side of the fence, but it was Fisher’s determination and lack of want to build that got him this amazing car. And that’s something we just can’t argue with!
