Video: Installing BBK’s Varitune Exhaust Kit for 5th-Gen Camaros

BBK Exhaust, of Temecula, California, abides by the credo: “Why follow when you can lead?” The company prides itself on holding its exhaust kits (and the company as a whole) to quality standards higher than that of OEMs, and has done so for more than twenty years. Today, they’re leading by example by showing us a proper installation of one of their terrific Varitune exhaust kits for the modern Camaro.

proppingupmidpipesBBKThe Varitune exhaust kit for the 5th-generation 2010-14 Camaro is a great addition to an already great car – as the name implies, it allows you to tune the performance of your exhaust system. It works by way of a set screw on the back of the muffler, which allows users the power to adjust the sound and performance levels with a simple wrench. What could be simpler for getting the right combination of sound and flow out of your vehicle?

In the video, the BBK technicians have the Camaro first lifted and the mid-pipes supported. They advise removing the system with a Sawzall or hacksaw, and making sure to line up the cuts with the end of the rear differential.

Afterwards, loosening the grommets and removing the stock mufflers is the next step. BBK recommends that you use a metal file or grinder to take down any rough edges and frayed metal to aid the installation of the new inlet pipes onto the stock mid-pipe.

camaromufflerinstalledAfter attaching the exit pipe to the muffler and sliding everything in place with the hanging grommets, it’s time to adjust everything in its place before getting them finally settled. It’s a good idea to apply a loose-fitting torque to the screws and make sure you’ve got the parts where you want them, then tighten them down.

Now you can start using the Varitune system in the way it was intended. Take your favorite wrench and turn the adjustment screw inward to dampen or outward to unleash sound, power, and flow to your heart’s delight.

See for yourself how the Varitune system made a difference: at the end of the video we see that the car made an additional 10 horsepower and foot-pounds of torque on the dyno. Any way you look at it, this kit from BBK is a proven upgrade to boost your late model Camaro.
