Video: Heidts Automotive, Sneak Peak Of Prototype Ford Suspension

We recently got a chance to catch up with Jim Shaw, Sr. Mechanical Engineer over at Heidts Automotive Group. He spoke a bit about the current development of a prototype IFS (independent front suspension) that would extend the current line of Superide II IFS catering to older model Ford pickups. With Heidts now expanding into the classic truck markets with performance suspension offerings, we new we had to take a closer look.superide-ii-ifs_truck

The Company

Heidts has been in business for over 28 years and was founded by Gary Heidt, a leading figure within the street rodding industry specializing in pre ’48 models. Wallace Leyshon is the current owner and CEO of Heidts Performance Group and after purchasing the business over five years ago they have since driven production towards encompassing the entire performance and muscle industry.

The company started in a 700 square foot space and has since been upgraded to a 50,000 square foot operation. Owner Leyshon affirms that Heidts continues to lead the industry in providing the widest range of aftermarket performance suspension systems.

The featured video above gives a sneak peak at the mock up of what will soon be the newest edition to the Superide II IFS line catering to classic Ford pickups. Heidts is set to launch the new Classic Ford suspension system later in the year.

According to Shaw, Sr. Mechanical engineer, the system will include a variety of specs geared towards improving a vehicle’s performance and handling including; dual A-arms, coilover conversions, rack and pinion conversions, 2-inch drop spindles, and a beefy crossmember welded into the frame to support a heftier power plant.

Currently, the Superide II IFS line features a front suspension system molded for ’48-’52 F1s and another catering to ’57-’64 “wide cabs” that have been gaining popularity within the street rodding industry.

We are eager to see the unveiling of Heidts brand expansion later this year. One of the greatest things about resurrecting or restoring an old car is the ability to seamlessly mesh an older body with the technology of today. Though a purist might argue against this at times, for the performance driven, there is an undeniable advantage imparted by the innovations of modern engineering.

The Specs

Here is a brief breakdown of Heidts’ Superide II IFS line and a few of the specs that these systems offer. For more information on each one of their product offerings check out their blog here.
