Video: Harbor Freight Tools 1967 Firebird Restoration, Part 9

Engineonstand_pt.-31-640x425It’s been quite a thrill ride, everybody, and we finally made it. It’s part 9 of 9 in this epic saga, the Harbor Freight Tools 1967 Firebird restoration project.

Jeff Tann and his crew of grease monkeys have worked themselves to the bone and have something to celebrate in the restored Firebird now resting before them. It’s fitting that Richard Strauss’ opening movement of Also Sprach Zarathustra is playing–the grandiosity of its reveal cannot be understated.

In the previous video, we got to see Jeff and his men reassemble the Firebird. Piece by piece, the car came together as the engine, chassis, wheels, body, et cetera, were finally made one. One of the really cool things about that phase was getting to see the handmade seats, which came out looking perfect. You can view part 8 here

jeffsandblasting2_part-5Everything about this build was great to watch, and was done by and large with items that you can find at Harbor Freight tools. Some of the great tools used were the 2-ton capacity foldable shop crane from episode 3, which the guys used to remove that big GM engine.

In that same episode, you had the 1000 lb. engine stand keeping the beast in place as the guys went about the nasty business of its disassembly. This included the manifold, flywheel, and the disgusting, decades-old oil getting drained.

Another terrific episode was part 5, where the underbody received its due attention. While mounted to a rotisserie, the surface rust met its match as Jeff grabbed a Pacific Hydrostar 4HP gas pressure washer, added a Central Pneumatic portable abrasive blaster kit, and used medium grade Armex soda blast media to terminate the oxidized metal flakes with extreme prejudice.

These were just some of the highlights we got to see over the course of this Firebird’s resurrection. We here at StreetMuscleMag salute Jeff Tann, his crew, and Harbor Freight Tools for giving us a look into this great adventure.

Before and after.

Now, who wants to go to Harbor Freight this weekend? We can’t wait to see what kind of tools we can buy for a sweet price; we’re feeling mighty motivated to go do some restoring of our own.
