Sprint car racing can be tight and chaotic on 1/4 mile bullrings like Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois. Then throw in some of the Midwest’s best winged sprint car drivers and fans will be in for a treat like last weekend when the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) invaded Jacksonville for the 2nd Annual Mary Lee Standridge Memorial. A strong field of 28 cars made the trip to Central Illinois to take their chance at the victory. A.J. Bruns looked like he had the car to beat all night long as he won his heat race and then passed veteran Danny Smith in the dash to earn the pole for the A-Main event. However, in the feature event Danny Smith got his chance for revenge as he took the win as Bruns faded from his pole position.
Wayne Johnson came home in the runner-up spot and did so with a broken LR brake caliper that he lost near the halfway point of the race. Bruns had to settle for third with Brady Bacon in fourth and Joe B. Miller completed to top-five. Jeremy Standridge was the highest finisher from the Standridge Motorsports family as he finished in the 16th position in the feature. Standridge did have a great on-board camera angle for his heat race. The camera angle shows us who have never raced a sprint car just how demanding a little 1/4 mile track can be and what goes into getting a 800+ horsepower sprint car around one. The video is also a great example of what happens when a driver gets that right rear tire just a little to close to the cushion. So strap in with Jeremy Standridge and enjoy the ride.
