Dirt late model’s don’t get upside down nearly as often as a sprint car but when they do the crashes can be very scary. This was most certainly the over the weekend in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition at Tennessee’s Tazewell Speedway when young gun Bobby Pierce got on his lid. We originally posted the pictures of the aftermath of the accident on OneDirt but video has now surfaced of the incident.

Pierce was running near the front and having good race when the car of Chris Madden seemed to slow ahead of him entering turn one. Pierce is running two wide on the bottom of the track heading down the front stretch as he approached the slowing machine of Madden. He tries to make a move to avoid Madden and that’s when things go horribly wrong. Pierce’s late model makes a hard move towards the outside wall and hits the wall nearly head on at almost full speed. His machine takes several violent rolls before coming to a stop on its roof at the bottom of the racetrack. Luckily, Pierce was able to emerge from the mangled remains of his race car without being injured.
The car was a total loss as his team must now spend the week salvaging what parts they can and prepping their backup car for this coming weekend’s huge Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway which will be Pierce’s first visit to the historic speedway. Check out the great video here and see how fast things can go wrong in a dirt late model.
