While much of the United States are trying to fire off their 2013 season, the folks in Australia are wrapping up theirs. What started in December and January is starting to come to an end. Most of the US sprint car drivers that visited Australia have already returned home but it doesn’t mean that the racing has suffered at all.
Our friends at AFCO racing shared this great video onboard Darren Jensen’s sprinter at Australia’s Archerfield Speedway. The video was shot during qualifying on May 4th where Jensen turned the quarter mile bull ring in under 12 seconds. Jensen battled hard throughout the night and even turned in the fastest lap in the A-main. However, his bid to win came up a bit short when he crossed line not even a second behind race winner James McFadden.
It’s easy to see from the video how crucial your shocks are to your success. If you look close you can actually see when the shock travels all the way to the bump-stop on the end of the shaft. This is why the folks at AFCO work with racers to develop shocks for their needs and track conditions.
AFCO’s Ben Baker explained to us in our featured story – Raceday Shock Tuning Advice From The Experts, how important shock tuning is, but to remember it’s just one component to your ride, “Chassis tuning is a compromise. There are many components that affect handling. Shocks, while a very important part of the set-up, are still only a part of chassis tuning.”
