Livernois Livens Up Explorer 3.5L Ecoboost with New Tune

Not all of us can drive a Mustang for the daily commute. The daily grind gets in the way with errands like grocery shopping, picking up and dropping off the kids (and their stuff), or even weekend getaways. Seldom is our favorite pony car well suited for such chores.

So many of us then turn to one of the blue oval’s other rides that’s better designed for people hauling and more mundane pursuits. One of the best selling SUV’s in North America for the last 20 years has been the Ford Explorer. With it’s recent redesign making it more car like, and more fuel efficient, the current Explorer is perhaps better for the urban life it’s typically used for, than ever before.

With that said though, driving one of these lumbering SUV’s, while handy, can also be just plain dull. While the available 3.5 Ecoboost engine in the Explorer Sport may sound tempting, it’s not as much fun as the same setup in lighter vehicles. It would seem that Ford just didn’t turn the wick up high enough to haul you and the kids, let alone the lumbering heavy beast of a SUV around.

Livernois Motorsports, known for their high performance parts and work with OEM’s, has a solution for those living day to day life with an Ecoboost Explorer that can make dropping the kids off to school a bit more exciting.

Livernois has recently released a dyno tune for the Explorer Sport 3.5L Ecoboost that bumps horsepower and torque significantly. Just as in their work with other Ecoboost engines, Livernois was able to see significant gains in the lower RPM range, where the engine spends most of it’s time. At 2700 RPM, the engine had already picked up 75 horsepower at the wheels, and an astonishing 142 ft-lbs of torque. Torque has jumped to a peak of 385 ft-lbs, and horsepower peaked at just shy of 315 right at 5500 RPM. 93 Octane pump gas was used to baseline and test the tune. Other improvements from the tune include firmer shifts and better fuel economy. While it probably won’t beat any brand X sports cars at the next stop light, it will at least provide a little extra punch to get the kids to soccer practice on time. The tune is available now through Livernois via their web site or by phone.
