Video: ’59 Chevy Apache Lights Em Up On Cue With Big-Block Power

Here's what the Apache relies on for power: a supercharged 489ci. big-block.

We often get asked what our favorite kind of build is, and our answer is usually the same: we like ’em all! But we do have to give the guys props who build their own cars from scratch, usually from a dilapidated old wreck. In this case, it’s a ’59 Chevy Apache pickup and it sported so much patina, we’re surprised it wasn’t turned into a rat rod.

Since it was originally from California the body was a little rough but overall appeared solid. Under the hood lied an old 6-shooter but that wasn’t going to be a permanent powerplant of the new owner. Out came the six, and in went an eight. But not just any V8, a supercharged big-block stroker displacing 489ci developing a tire shredding 560hp and over 600 ft.-lbs. of torque.

The truck would get a complete restoration that would include cleaning up the frame, fresh upholstery, and new paint.

Here's how this Chevy originally started, a well-worn farm implement with truck-loads of potential.

Chrome baby moons are what this old Chevy relies on for rollers, and it maintains a stock ride height, a bit of an anomaly with pro-touring and air-ride suspension being all the rage these days.

We ran across a video for this truck doing some impressive donuts and burnouts that would make any red blooded American proud. We were able to get some information on this truck through the owner/builder’s YouTube comments, but the specifics are still sketchy since we weren’t able to get a hold of him before press time. Enjoy the video though, it features the entire build process and a great soundtrack with the Rolling Stones’ classic song “Black.”
