Most car guys have at some point or another harbored a secret desire to be a race car driver. Revving the engine, pumping up the crowd, listening to the jeers and cheers of the fans…that is a dream most of us never get over. So when the opportunity to put on a show for a crowd of race fans comes up, who can say no?

Unfortunately, sometimes neither the car nor our nerves cooperate. This video from the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway shows that when things go wrong, it tends to be in front of a large crowd. We’d hate to be this Mustang driver after the races. 

The race is part of the spectator drags at Beech Ridge, where individuals in the crowd can bring out their cars for a chance at racing glory. A SN95 Mustang GT is a great bargain muscle car, with plenty of pep and aftermarket support. Its competitor, a Subaru WRX STi ain’t no joke either, with plenty of horsepower and all-wheel drive.

That all-wheel drive helps the WRX get a big jump on the Mustang, quickly leaving it in the dust. And that would be that if the Mustang driver had managed to maintain control. But alas, he doesn’t, and coming out of that first corner he loses control, over-correcting right into the wall. While the Mustang isn’t ruined, the damage isn’t pretty; the passenger’s side of the Mustang got a nasty rash from that collision with the wall.

That’s a bad day for this wannabe racer; losing to a Subaru and busting up your Mustang? A bad day indeed.
