There seems to be a discrepancy about what the proper use for a hot rod is, whether it’s to sit on a lawn and look pretty, or to be used and abused. But the hot rod enthusiasts in New Zealand seem to have it figured out. Earlier this month, we brought you a video of New Zealand rodders tearing it up at the Jalopy Dust Up and now we have even more dusty action for you. Check out the ins and outs of New Zealand hot rod racing “Day in the Dirt” style in the “>video above.

This video was shot at the 2010 Day in the Dirt event held in Harrisville, New Zealand in early November. The whole point of the festivities? A whole lot of classic dirt track racing for muscle cars, hot rods, customs and vintage midgets. Also included in the event was live music, plenty of good eats and even a temporary bar for some cold ones track side. Of course, the main event gathered the most attention, but the impromptu car show that popped up with classic American race and spectator vehicles also drew a crowd.

We all know how long it takes to get your car waxed and polished, but letting loose and having a bit of fun every once in awhile seems to be the whole attitude for Day in the Dirt. There was even several nicely painted models that took to the track along side their rat rod and patina’ed counterparts at this event.

So if these fine folks can let their hair down and get their hot rods a little dirty, what’s stopping us? Seems to me like we need more of these kind of events here in the States.
