Break Time Video: ’36 Chevy Pickup to Brighten Your Day!

Jonathan Glover of Glover’s Garage is one of those talented people who can combine an interesting subject, expert videography and editing, along with appropriate music to tell fascinating stories. This video is of a 1936 Chevy pickup that has been chopped, slammed, shortened, and generally massaged into something that any self-respecting hot rodder would love to drive.

The truck features a bare metal finish on the cab combined with a masterfully done pinstripe job that would make even the most jaded hot rod critic stop and look. The shallow and shortened truck bed is home to an aluminum fuel tank along with a lockable cargo box made from a wooden Jack Daniels crate. (Recycle and re-purpose whenever possible friends!) The interior is straight out of 1936 with little restoration and few visible signs of modification.

The rawness of the little Chevy pickup continues through the powerplant as the truck is motivated by a 348 Chevy motor with three-deuces and wide open “weed sweeper” headers. When this combination cackles to life, it transports you to the middle of the last century were the only important things about a hot rod that mattered were speed and noise.

The musical track is titled “Clickety Clack” and is performed by the Ugly Valley Boys. If your feet stay still while you listen to this music, you need to go back to listening to Doris Day!

Glover’s videos can provide a momentary escape for the hot rodder from the humdrum sameness of the workday. It’s easy to get sidetracked from how you make your living so don’t let the boss see these videos on your computer monitor or you may just find yourself with lots more time to kill during the day…

About the author

Paul Lambert

Paul Lambert is an independent writer who grew up during a time in Southern California car culture when big horsepower and high speed were celebrated above all. He now understands that turning, stopping, appearance and comfort are equal in importance...almost! Paul tries to find something likeable and interesting about anything with wheels and thinks that the people, history, and culture of hot rodding are often as important to the story as the cars and events being featured.
