This past weekend we saw some very extreme weather! Record highs were occurring throughout the country which forced many tracks to cancel their racing activities because of the scorching heat. But as it commonly happens, that heat brought with it some very serious thunderstorms.
Sporting events and venues throughout the country had to battle the wild weather, infact the AT&T at Congressional PGA Stop had to postpone play on Saturday because of a very strong band of storms that wreaked havoc on the course. What a lot of people don’t know is those same band of storms had already caused some destruction at one of the most historic tracks in the country – Eldora Speedway.
The folks at the speedway had this to say about the above video – A storm front with extremely high-winds hit Eldora Speedway in New Weston, Ohio this afternoon. At approximately p.m., Speedway official Jonathon Bateman captured an intense gust take down one of the track’s light poles.
As you can tell from the video it wasn’t just a pole that was damaged at the speedway.
The most amazing part of this story was the fact that Eldora Speedway was able to make repairs to the speedway and even held an event on the weekend where they saw three first time winners that famed speedway.
Great work guys!
