The 1990 Chevy 454 SS holds a special place for many truck fans as one of the original muscle pickups.
Tapping into that ’90s nostalgia, Mattel Creations recently offered a new, exclusive Hot Wheels Red Line Club (RLC) model of the iconic truck, finished in a very period-correct teal color scheme.
This 1:64 scale model, which went on sale for RLC members on June 10, is the latest in a series of popular 454 SS releases. The truck features a ZAMAC body painted in what Hot Wheels calls “Spectraflame teal.”
It’s decorated with a pattern of aqua, navy, and fuchsia graphics that, according to the official product listing, creates a look “so awesome that not even your nicest fanny pack can contain it.”
The model’s metal chassis is also painted in a matching aquamarine color. Lightly smoked windows show off a black interior, and the truck rides on chrome Real Riders 5-spoke mag wheels.
Attention to detail is high, with functional moving parts. An opening hood reveals the painted big-block V8 engine underneath, and the tailgate also opens.
This new teal model continues a popular series for the Hot Wheels 454 SS. Hot Wheels previously released a black and red version in 2022 and followed that with a Spectraflame red model in 2023, making the new truck the third in this sought-after series.
The toy is based on the real GMT400 generation Chevy C1500 truck. The 1990 454 SS was the debut year for the model and came only as a single-cab, rear-wheel-drive pickup.
Its power came from a 7.4L L19 V8 engine that produced 230 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. While this new Hot Wheels model is teal, all original 1990 trucks were sold in black with a red interior.
The exclusive model was offered to Red Line Club members for $27, with a purchase limit of two per person.
For collectors of ’90s vehicles and die-cast fans, this latest Hot Wheels 454 SS was another great tribute to the era of bold colors and classic muscle truck performance.
