Saw blade Corvette might sound off, but what happens when you combine a C5 Corvette, four custom-made, half-inch thick saw blades, and a frozen lake in Minnesota? YouTuber Westen Champlin decided to find out, and the results are as terrifying—and entertaining—as you’d expect.
Westen, known for his wild automotive builds and stunts, documented the entire process, from fabricating the massive saw blades to the climactic and slightly terrifying drive on the ice. The video follows Champlin and his crew as they first test the saw-blade-equipped Corvette on gravel and dirt.
“We’re just doing some testing,” Champlin commented at the start of the video, “Testing with a Corvette on saw blades…these aren’t any normal saw blades, these are saw blades we had specially made, these are half-inch thick saw blades.”
The saw blades are not something you would find off the shelf. Champlin tells us that these roughly 24-inch diameter circular saw blades have been specially made and are half an inch thick, giving them a fighting chance to hold the Corvette’s 3,000-plus-pound weight.
The main event, of course, is the ice run. After initially falling through the ice, the Corvette, with a push start from a plow truck driven by a friend named Craig, manages to drive across the frozen surface.
Ultimately, this wild and crazy experiment proved one thing, according to Champlin: “If you want to drive a Corvette on saw blades across the frozen lake you can do it as long as you got somebody to give you a push in a plow truck just to get you up to speed.”
But what this Corvette lacks in function, it makes up for in fun. Kudos to Westen Champlin and his crew for showing ingenuity, a healthy dose of recklessness, and the entertainment value of pushing vehicles to their absolute limits. Is the saw blade Corvette build one of the best builds they’ve put up online? Maybe the most fun so far, but these guys for sure have more fun to come.
