Forgotten Muscle: Old Car City’s Automotive Graveyard

The video offers a glimpse into the history of Old Car City. The car collection reportedly began in the 1930s or ’40s when the original owner started bringing Cadillacs onto the property. The hosts, Joe and Mike Finnegan, went on an adventure through the overgrown paths of Old Car City, located in Georgia. The journey is initiated by Mike’s ride, a restored 1969 Chevrolet El Camino that has been in their family for years.

Old Car City is a visual feast for any car enthusiast, though a bittersweet one. Thousands of vehicles from the muscle car era and well past it sit in all levels of decay. Trees breakthrough engine compartments, floors are gone, and vivid paint jobs have patinas now. The hosts show their disgust while staring at the car. “All I want to do is come back with a chainsaw and rescue the car from the tree,” says Finnegan.

Joe and Mike point out a few pony cars, including the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Charger. They lament the loss of these automotive gems, and their ability to be salvaged is debatable. Mike laughs at the cars telling Joe that these cars are going to rot to nothingness and there’s nothing they can do about it.

The hosts also stumble upon unexpected sites, such as a tree growing directly through the center of a car’s body. “Oh my God, right through the center of it!” Joe commented. A bus split into two by years of negligence also catches their attention. They continue to take a stroll around the site, knowing they can’t do anything to rescue these cars as the owner doesn’t want to sell them.

But in the end, they still appreciated the place, with each car having a different story, they would love to come back and get to know more about these cars. While the video focuses on the cars, it also taps into the human aspect of this strange place. They speculate about the lives of the people who once owned these vehicles and the stories behind their abandonment. In addition, they discuss how Old Car City is even appealing to non-car people who appreciate the unique aesthetics of the site.
