Ken Block Races Hoonigan Trophy Truck Against His Subaru Rally Racer

Earlier this month, we reported that renowned rally racer Ken Block used the occasion of Papas & Beer Beach Fest to unveil his all-new 1100 HP Hoonigan trophy truck. Recently, Block decided to take his Geiser Bros. G6 chassis-based Dougans Racing V8 powered off-road beast down to team O’Neill School’s rally stage for some “playtime.”

“I don’t think trophy truck’s ever been on tight rally stages like the ones here at Tim O’Neill School,” said Block. He further added, “we are gonna test how quick that Hoonigan is, against a very modern, decades of development, current specs Subaru STI rally car.”

Block also brought his Subaru WRX STI rally car down to the rally stage for some testing and decided to use it as a play partner for his newest acquisition. In the name of “science” block decided to race the two vehicles against one another to find out which is the fastest rally contender. The driver chronicled his adventurous outing in the two rally-spec racers and later uploaded the video on his YouTube channel.

  • Open Class spec Rally Car
  • Turbocharged 2.0-liter powerplant
  • Six-speed transmission with all-wheel-drive
  • 3000 lbs Race Weight

For the test, Block decided to set the benchmark by driving around the 2.5-mile rally stage in the Subaru. Then the rally driver got behind the wheel of the Hoonigan trophy truck and attempted to beat the fastest lap time of the WRX STI race car. The heavier and more off-road capable trophy truck was obviously slower than the stripped-down Subaru, but Block was impressed by the handling of the Hoonigan truck. In the end the Subaru WRX STI reported a time of 2 minutes 32 seconds. The Geiser Bros G6 trophy truck held its own with a best lap of 2 minutes 55 seconds. By comparison over the 2.5 mile course the 20 second difference equates to the truck being 9.2 seconds slower per mile then the rally car. Ken Block admitted he is far more familiar behind the wheel of the Subaru at this point.
