A few weeks ago, a crew of off-road racing industry insiders descended to a remote Southern California desert site. The area, known as Plaster City, is a desirable proving ground to test and set up off-road vehicles. The purpose was to get rally racing legend Ken Block acclimated and driving a trophy truck. 

It was then announced that Ken Block, alongside Jax Redline, would be competing in the 2021 SCORE-International Baja 1000. Jumping forward a few weeks later, Ken and Jax announced that Alan Ampudia would be the third driver of the team in a wild livery reveal. This all happened in the middle of Papas & Beer Beach Fest party with Lil Jon headlining down in Baja California – Rosarito, Mexico. Thousands of local fans, champagne, and fireworks topped it off making for what must have been a wild event.

The brand new trophy truck is a brand new Geiser Bros G6 chassis and features an  1,100 horse power 470 cubic inch big block Dougans Racing Engines V8, massive forty inch Toyo Tires,  a treasury of King Shocks, solid KMC Wheels, Rigid Lights, Sparco Seats, MPI Steering Wheel, and singing Borla Exhaust. The truck is noted to get two miles per gallon at race pace. In the rear sets a ninety seven gallon fuel cell underneath two full-size spare tires. This means there is an astounding one thousand pounds of weight supported by a rear suspension package that owns thirty two inches of travel. The whole thing is wrapped in a very colorful  and stunning It’s a Living collaboration livery designed by Mexican artist Ricardo Gonzalez.

“It’s exciting to see the merging of all these worlds,” said Block. “Bringing together a guy from rally like me with two amazingly talented trophy truck racers and the work of an artist like Ricardo with this truck from one of the greatest builders in the world is an incredible moment.”

The newest driver to the Hoonigan Trophy Truck Team, Alan Ampudia, is the 2019 Baja 1000 overall winner. Jax Redline is very talented and highly experienced racer for his young age. Ken Block will bring his own competitive edge to the 1000 with his advanced rally racing skills. In an effort to get Block more experience, Ken and his rally co-driver Alex Gelsomino will be racing a short leg in the upcoming Best In The Desert Vegas to Reno race.

“The ultimate goal here is winning the whole Baja 1000,” Block stated. “We are using this race to get as much seat time as possible going into the big event. There’s a big learning curve for us.”
