Looking to put a little more pep in your Jeep JK’s step, but don’t fancy the idea of a full engine tear-down or motor swap? Kraftwerks has just released a supercharger system for the 2012-’18 Jeep Wrangler, and test results have shown that a respectable 130-horsepower increase is easily achievable. All told, that bumps the stock JK’s 3.6-liter up to 328 horsepower at the rear wheels, along with 280 lb-ft of torque.
According to the company’s press release, this kit is compatible with both automatic and manual transmissions, and provides instant throttle response for what Kraftwerks refers to as a “progressive power curve that increases straight through to redline.” Forget all of that turbo-lag nonsense, as this is typically followed by turbocharger surges, which is the last thing you need when just a bit more grunt is required to crest that rocky outcropping.
But the engineering crew over at Kraftwerks didn’t just design this bolt-on supercharger kit so that it could just deliver a more usable power curve. They engineered it so that it will reduce cylinder pressure, therefore eliminating strain on engine internals, and in turn increasing reliability and powertrain longevity.
Being that this is a Rotrex supercharger setup, its operational temps are far cooler than say a turbocharger system or even traditional supercharger kits. Jeep JK owners, therefore, will benefit from lower engine intake air temperatures, more power, and the reduced risk of detonation.
The core component controlling it all is a Rotrex C30-94 unit, which according to Kraftwerks, is capable of supporting up to 445-horsepower at the crank. Each Jeep JK supercharger kits also comes with a large, front-mount intercooler, along with all of the necessary aluminum piping, silicone couplers, clamps, and hardware required for installation.
As for the air/fuel ratio end of things, Kraftwerks has included Grams Performance 52 lb/hr fuel injectors with each kit, and an optional engine management system is available for fine-tuning once everything is installed. All of those fuel injectors are a plug-and-play affair too, thanks to Kraftwerks’ use of specialized, bolt-on adapters. With the addition of a tuning solution, this Jeep JK supercharger system from Kraftwerks becomes an all-in-one performance solution, offering buyers a safe, reliable blower setup that is a breeze to install.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Rotrex superchargers, it is worth noting that they are typically utilized by people looking for a compact product with high adiabatic efficiency ratings, lower vibrations, and whisper-quiet operation. These systems feature a unique traction drive technology, which, unlike traditional superchargers, transmits power through frictional forces between its rolling elements.
This means that a Rotrex supercharger relies upon a self-contained oiling system, therefore it is completely separate from the engine. A dual-action oil pump sends traction fluid to the supercharger, while the intercooler helps maintain ideal fluid temperatures during operation.
