Jeremy Formato of FasterProms showed up to LS Fest East with a Chevrolet S-10 that was under some serious construction. We have seen the truck online, but this was our first time to see it in person, and this thing is going to be rad when it’s done.

“We are basically trying to build a poor man’s Hoonigan truck and document all of the pitfalls and all of the positive things that we can take away from it as well,” Jeremy explained. The guys have done some extreme modifications including moved the engine back 9.5-inches essentially making it a mid-engine S-10. Jeremy continued, “We are doing some weird and crazy things with the S-10. The whole idea steams from a Syclone and Typhoon that we had when I was much younger.” The plan for the truck is a twin-turbo setup bolted to a 5.3-liter direct-injected L83 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Since this build is being influenced by the iconic ’90s model sport truck, of course, the S-10 had to be all-wheel-drive (AWD).

For the drivetrain, Jeremy decided to go the manual route and call upon a TR6060 for gear changes. The truck has a stock front differential in it at the moment, and if it holds up, Jeremy is planning on inserting a Limited-Slip-Differential (LSD). LOJ built a special adapter to mate the Trailblazer transfer case. Due to the engine set back and the length of the TR6060 combines with the TBSS transfer case, the front driveshaft will actually be longer than the rear.

Jeremy told us that initially, they thought moving the firewall back would not affect the build very much. However, this small detail has caused “47 other problems” that they will need to work around. One of those problems includes a modified seat position. Jeremy said, “The seating position is now in the extended cab portion of the truck.”

Jeremy is expecting the twin-turbo 5.3 to make in the 700-800 horsepower range at first as they hit some goals, but this is not just a drag truck. Jeremy Said, “We want this truck to be a triple threat. We want this truck to kill it on the road course and be able to beat some of the cars that are in the six figures out there. If we can do that and run in the 8s, that would be awesome.”

As far as a completion date goes, Jeremy said, “We are looking to be going down the track in 3-4 weeks. However, I don’t know if it will ever be finished because we want to keep pushing it and tweaking the truck.”

With that said, four weeks can’t get here fast enough for us. We want to see this thing ripping down the 1/4-mile soon.
