SEMA 2011: Flowmaster-Equipped 1927 Roadster Has a European Flair

“Unf**kwithable.” That is what Zane Cullen of Cotati Speed Shop calls the 1927 Ford Roadster that his shop built to represent eGarage.com. One look at the spec sheet, and we have to agree. Owners Nick and Patricia Jiminez outlined the build to Zane, who had the task of transforming those ideas into reality.

The Ferrari Grigio Scuro paint gives the '27 a unique look, sort of a polished military feel.

Powered by a GM Performance Parts HO Deluxe 350 making 330hp, the ’27 Roadster has the guts to move quickly, but that was not always the plan. Like many builds, this one started out much simpler. “It started out as a simple roadster- flat paint, basically a cruiser,” Cullen told us. “It just kind of blew up from there.”

One of the key components of the build was to have a European feel to the car. The rear exhaust was brought together in the center. One of the owner’s ideas was to make the exhaust tips look like 50-cal machine gun barrels, bringing a little American machismo to the subtle European design.

“Packaging this car was the biggest challenge,” said Cullen. “Bringing all of the owner’s ideas together while making it look as simple as possible.” We think they have succeeded.

Inside the cabin is just as military-inspired as the rest of the roadster. Truly this '27 is out for blood.

The roadster features a who’s who of aftermarket goodies, such as a Gearstar 700R4, Lokar cables and shifter, ARP fasteners and Flowmaster Exhaust.

A triangulated 4-link helps the Ford 9-inch hook up with the 4.11 gears and Detroit Tru-Trac differential. What look like a set of aluminum Buick drums in the front are actually covers, hiding the Wilwood disc brakes.

The Flowmast exhaust was brought to the center of the tail pan, then given a machin gun look with the drilled covers.

The gauges have been custom designed by Classic Instruments and feature the car’s name. The seat is wrapped in distressed Italian leather, which was installed by Plante Interiors of Santa Rosa, CA. The roadster is sans carpet, the floor is lined with a rubber mat.

The car is based on a Shadow Rods XL27 steel shell. Continuing with the European concept, the roadster was sprayed with a 1954 Ferrari color known as Grigio Scuro from DuPont Performance Coatings and applied by the Cotati Speed Shop.

If you ever find yourself cruising the streets of Santa Rosa and come across this dark green roadster, just remember. It’s Unf**kwithable.

Those may look like Buick drums, but they are actually just cover hiding the Wilwood disc brakes.
