SPEC Super Carbon and 5.0 Mustang Clutches

In years past carbon clutches were not thought of as street-type clutch applications.  The material was expensive and carbon wasn’t looked at as a high mileage alternative for clutch material.  Spec Clutch has found a way to make the carbon clutches live on the street, and at a decent price.  They have released their Super Carbon multi-disc clutch features very good street driving manners.  Also the discs are extremely light, weight less than 1.5 pounds in total, further reducing the rotating weight of the clutch.

Another exciting announcement is their addition of the 2011 Mustang 5.0.  Spec said the 5.0 clutch was very similar to the 4.6 models that they are already very familiar with and only had to make a few, slight modifications to that kit to get it to work on the new motors.  The clutches are offered in Spec’s full line, supporting any power level.

You can start with their Stage 1 that features an integrally molded carbon kevlar-based, high performance organic lining that offers smooth engagement and excellent life. This lining has an integrally bonded steel backing for strength under high clamp loads and temperatures. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability.

Or if you want something on the extreme, the Stage 5 features a full-metallic disc with the highest possible friction co-efficient. Street drivable but not street-friendly. The hub is solid 12-rivet and the assembly is heat treated for strength and durability. Best for extreme street and drag racing.
