How Ford 3-D Prints GT500 Parts

In the latest AmericanMuscle Mustang News video, Justin Dugan tours Ford’s new $45 million advanced manufacturing facility with Chief Engineer Mike Mikula to see how Ford 3-D prints parts and tools for their upcoming model line, including the GT500.

While the new GT500 won’t be revealed to the public in its entirety until January 14, 2019, a few bits and pieces of it are seen in the video. Dugan also meets with Technical Leader Harold Sears, Technical Expert Marty Smets, and Digital Factory Manager Harry Kekedjian while on site.

In the video, Dugan learns that emerging technologies are used by the team at Ford’s Advanced Manufacturing Facility as a practical solution to solve challenges that arise and develop solutions that make vehicles safer and more efficient. Other tools and resorced they use include additive manufacturing – also referred to as 3-D printing – to augmented and virtual reality.

Dugan also gets the inside scoop on how Ford uses robots and automation to expand the capability of their manufacturing processes.
