Things are starting to heat up among the 6-speed LS drag racing contingent. Cleetus McFarland’s Leroy the Savage infamous stripped down Corvette looks to have a little up-and-coming competition in the way of Ray Bulach’s full bodied fourth-gen Camaro. 

While trying to get his Camaro more competitive, Ray decided to try and get some weight out of the car this season. Several upgrades to the Camaro were made, including an aluminum block that has now been enlarged to a 422 cubic-inch fire-breathing monster. The turbo has also been upgraded from a large 88mm unit to an even bigger 98mm turbo. Bulach is still utilizing the RPM Transmission-built T56 with the G-Force Transmissions gear set with a Monster Clutch Company LT1 triple disc clutch, and the combo is working. 

Ray is now the second quickest stick-shifted T56 car in the world. In his record-setting pass, he was able to manage a pretty conservative 1.33 sixty-foot time and go 7.98 at 185.87 mile per hour. The Texas Speed-powered Camaro is no doubt a force to be reckoned with in the 6-speed class. While it does fall short of the record by .16-seconds, the fourth-gen Camaro has a much better speed at 185.87 versus McFarland’s 176 mph record-setting blast. 

It will be interesting to watch these two battle it out for 6-speed domination in the class: the gear-ripping war between the twin-turbo stripped down ‘Vette and a full bodied Camaro has commenced. Who will be the victor in this epic battle of horsepower, weight, traction, and aerodynamics? Odds are things will get very interesting next season and these two guys will be the ones to watch as thing progress.
