Video: 900-HP RS200 Crashes Heavily At Goodwood!

Trying to hustle a modified Group B monster with more than 900 horsepower on the crowned, dusty surface of the Goodwood hillclimb is a slightly sketchy challenge on the best of days. When parts of the aerodynamic bodywork fly off the vehicle while traveling at speed and decide to try a shot at hang gliding, it’s never going to end well for the driver.

Fortunately, rallycross maestro Liam Doran walked away unscathed, but it must’ve shaken the hell out of him. His modified Ford RS200, with its 2.4-liter BDT sending 1,000 horsepower driving all four wheels, sprints to 60 in just 1.7 seconds. It gets there thanks to a Quaife sequential gearbox, ridiculously short rallycross gearing, and 700 lb-ft of wheel-spinning torque. Watching the clip for the first time, you assume he’s going to lose it in the first few corners based on how he drives like there’s WRC money on the line.

With its huge intercooler standing proudly above the spinning mess, the space-framed RS200 sheds its bodywork as it plunges through the scenery.

Sideways over the dirt, Doran truly exploits this little mid-engined Ford and all its off-road prowess. But, being a rallycross car with wings, splitters, and undertrays to produce gobs of downforce, losing the rear clamshell deprives the car of its rear stability and sends it spinning like a top into the hay barriers. With the small fire started in the wreck, he’s lucky not to have set one of those bales alight. As one of the most exciting shots from the event, we realize just how much these drivers are putting on the line when chasing a time up the famed Goodwood hill.
